(Redwood City, CA) San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer Mark Church announced that the 10-day public review period for candidate statements and ballot measures included on the May 3 Consolidated Local Special Election ballot will open Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. after the close of the filing period. To date, ballot measures have been submitted by the San Carlos School District and Ravenswood City School District. Other jurisdictions may choose to consolidate an election with the scheduled May 3 Consolidated Local Special Election but they must file by 5 p.m. on Feb. 4 to qualify for inclusion in this election. The full text of ballot measures will be available for review on the website, www.shapethefuture.org, on Feb. 7, or viewable in person at the Elections Office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo during regular business hours. Candidate statements will also be viewable in person at the office.
The purpose of the public review period is to give voters an opportunity to review and/or challenge the language of a proposed ballot measure or candidate statement before it is published in the Official Voter Information Guide. During each of the successive 10-day public review periods, any voter of the jurisdiction in which the election is being held, or the county elections official, himself, may seek a writ of mandate or an injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. The writ of mandate or injunction request shall be filed no later than the end of the review period.
The three public review periods that will occur for the May 3 Consolidated Local Special Election relate to the rolling deadlines for specific documents that will be published in the Official Voter Information Guide. The review periods are as follows:
