(Redwood City, CA) The filing period for write-in candidates for every elective office appearing on the ballot for the November 7, 2017 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election began on September 11 and will end at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

To qualify, potential write-in candidates for municipal offices must file their nomination papers with their City or Town Clerks. Candidates who seek a write-in candidacy for a School or Special District must file their nomination documents at the Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo.

"Prospective write-in candidates should to take action quickly, to ensure they have adequate time to complete the process," said Mark Church, Chief Election Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder. "School and special district candidates may schedule an appointment at 40 Tower Road for their filing in advance, and I encourage them to do so.”

Potential write-in candidates must file a Statement of Write-In Candidacy providing the candidate’s name, residential address, the candidate’s declaration of candidacy for a specifically named office and specific election date, and a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700). No filing fee or charge shall be required.

No information concerning qualified write-in candidates, including their names, will be printed on voting materials provided to voters such as the Official Ballot and Sample Ballot and Official Voter Information Pamphlet. A list of qualified write-in candidates will be available on our website www.shapethefuture.org, at Voting Centers and at the polling places on Election Day. Only votes for qualified candidates will be tallied.
