(Redwood City, CA) At 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division will begin the One Percent Manual Tally of the votes cast in the May 5, 2015 San Carlos School District Special All Mail Ballot Election.  The purpose of the One Percent Manual Tally is to verify the accuracy and validity of the votes counted.  California law requires that the tally take place during the Official Canvass. The process must be completed within 30 days following an election.

In order to begin the conduct of the One Percent Manual Tally, precincts are selected for manual tally by using a random process. For this election, three precincts will be chosen for the manual tally.

“I encourage interested members of the public to observe the One Percent Manual Tally,” stated Mark Church. The tally will be held at the Registration & Elections Division, 40 Tower Road, San Mateo.

Official election results will not be certified until the canvass is completed and the votes of each of the contests on the ballot are upheld by the validations from the One Percent Manual Tally. This process is expected to take approximately 1 day to complete. The Chief Elections Officer will certify and publish the official results after the process is finalized and no later than June 4, 2015.  The official certified results, known as the Statement of the Vote, will be published on the Registration & Elections Division website, www.shapethefuture.org.
