Three Vote Centers Open and Vote by Mail Ballots Mailed

(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced that the voting period for the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election will begin February 3, 2020.

“As a convenience to voters during the early voting period, voters from any precinct in the county are invited to visit one of our three Vote Centers to cast a ballot or drop off a voted mail ballot,” Church stated.

The three Vote Centers opening February 3 are located at:

  • San Mateo Registration & Elections Division, 40 Tower Road, San Mateo  
  • Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, 555 County Center, 1st Floor, Redwood City
  • South San Francisco Main Library, 840 West Orange Avenue, South San Francisco

Hours of operation for the Vote Centers are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., February 3 through February 21. Weekend hours and additional Vote Centers will be available beginning Saturday, February 22.

Additional Vote Centers opening on February 22 are located at: 

  • Half Moon Bay Emergency Operations Center, 537 Kelly Avenue, Half Moon Bay
  • City of Daly City, City Hall, 330 90th Street, Daly City
  • Fair Oaks Community Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City
  • San Bruno Senior Center, 1555 Crystal Springs Road, San Bruno
  • Mid-Peninsula Boys & Girls Club, Teen Center, 200 N. Quebec Street, San Mateo
  • Lewis and Joan Platt East Palo Alto Family YMCA, 550 Bell Street, East Palo Alto

Hours of operation for all Vote Centers beginning on February 22 are as follows:

  • Saturday, February 22, 2020, through Monday, March 3, 2020,
    9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Daily)
  • Tuesday, March 3, 2020 (Election Day)
    7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Thirty-three additional Vote Centers will open on February 29, bringing the total to 42 Vote Centers available through Election Day.

Vote by Mail Ballots Mailed
February 3, 2020 is also the first day that Vote by Mail ballots will be mailed to every registered voter in San Mateo County. Registered voters can confirm their current registration status online at by clicking on the “My Election Info” button. The latest county registration statistics, updated biweekly, are available under “Voter Registration.”

Voters are encouraged to check My Election Info on to confirm when the Registration & Elections Division received and accepted their voted ballot.

The Registration & Elections Division offers a toll-free hotline, 888.SMC.VOTE (888.762.8683) to provide assistance in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Tagalog. 

To be counted, mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, March 3, 2020, and received no later than Friday, March 6, 2020.

All-Mailed Ballot – Vote Center Election Model for the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election
The March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election will be the fourth election San Mateo County conducts under the California Voter’s Choice Act (VCA) model. It is the first Presidential Primary Election to be held under the VCA.

Traditional polling places have been replaced by Vote Centers, which will be open for voting for an extended period, and which will offer expanded voter services including voter registration, multilingual assistance, and disabled access voting options. Every registered voter will also receive a Vote by Mail ballot, which voters can return with no postage required in any mailbox or into secure county ballot drop boxes located throughout the county.
